40ppb of Arsenic Is Extremely High - Is That Safe?
Updated over 2 months ago

The FDA has only one action level for rice baby cereal - a recommendation of arsenic levels at 100ppb or less is considered safe. The FDA recommends a variety of grain-based cereals to reduce exposure to heavy metals.

At Little Spoon, we aim to raise the bar. We're the first and only baby food company in the US with publicly available testing standards and the promise to voluntarily test every batch of our food for heavy metals.

Our safety standards for our baby cereal:

  • Arsenic: Maximum of 40 ppb (less than half of the FDA's limit for rice cereals).

  • Lead: Maximum of 20 ppb.

  • Cadmium: Maximum of 40 ppb.

  • Mercury: Maximum of 10 ppb.

To put it in perspective, 1 ppb is like a single raindrop in an Olympic-sized swimming pool. We avoid rice, which tends to be higher in arsenic, and use safer grains like oats, barley, and millet. We rigorously test at every stage to ensure our cereal meets these strict safety benchmarks, so you can confidently feed your baby. If our products don't meet our standard, they are never sold. Peace of mind with every spoonful.
